so I work in a Major Medical Center most days.......
it's alright pays the bills and all.
the place is huge...2 + city Blocks.
and 5 main entrances...

now the other day I'm waiting by this one entrance to meet a client and some "models" for an annual report web site ....shoot of some kind.
I got my big ole cart with the strobes, cameras, stands all that stuff.
and they are late. "they" always are........
so I'm just people watching.
and then I realize........
I walk by these people every day.
people that are on in years, waiting to be picked up after there doctors appointments.
they wait for hours at a time....alone in a wheel chair.
some times, some one waits with them but more often they wait alone....
it's sad.
I talked to a few just to help them pass the time... they thought I was the driver or wanted to rob them.. or both.........
so I gave up, like every one else.....
fuck man.
when it comes time.... I'm taking one of these with me into the wilds of wherever I am and going out in style....at least some bear won't go hungry.

so I'm bombing down through the Blue Hills on mass RT 28.
it's 6 o'clock at night and traffic sucks.
you go from 60mph to 5mph cause somebody forgot how to drive.
seriously it shouldn't back up there.
it goes from 1 very wide lane going each way with a 50 mph posted speed limit to 2 divided lanes each way.plus there are the entrance and exits for I 93.
so traffic should thin out right?
nope it's scary there are other cars what ever shall we do?

after 2 weeks +1day I picked her up at FTF cycles last night.
she had been there getting sorted out after I got rear ended in July.
insurance supplements and parts BS and some rain... and then wham.
all set.
Dan over there is a super cool KAT.
we hit it off... like the same stuff, old stuff....Bikes and Cars and whiskey, Motorhead and the Reverend Horton Heat.
so he went to bat for me with the Insurance Company.
then I asked him to chop my fender and rattle can bomb it.
I could have done it... but I wanted to get some rewiring done as well... and I suck at electric.
got to know what you don't know...........
I also need some new Rubber.
so why not have Dan take care of it all.
and I did.
and last night we hung out after hours at the shop and talked bikes and cars and whiskey.
dudes got some old triumph choppers in the back back room.
cool shit.
any way it was WICKED DAAHHk out last night so I took a pick this am.

so I'm all pissed off this morning.

and my bike has been over with Dan at FTF cycles getting "fixed" for over a week...fucking insurance adjusters and parts BS, but Dan is the real deal and is helping me out a bunch.
now that the checks are being cut we can actually start the chopping!
so I have to go to the post office to get the package with the last of the new to me parts in it this AM.
they can't just leave it at my house they need a signature.....

so I'm dressed like an English Dandy...

Ben Sherman pinstripe trousers and button down, plaid waist coat and black leather Chuck Taylor high tops Julie scored for me.
I'm in a monkey suit but still comfortable....

I got to kill some time before the PO opens so I pull into this gas station with a Dunkin Donuts in it.
and there's this big Fucking Dude.

this thing is pure RAT.
the tank has a ford emblem and 200 rusty dents, the whole thing is rust, welds, tape, oil and dirt.... the gas cap is a toilet plunger valve with electrical tape holding it on...barely....

there's a u bolt holding a piece of square stock on for highway pegs.
there's a kill switch coming out of a smiley face above the head light...(it draws to much so he turns it off when he's starting it)

so.....
I got Lamb of God's new release yesterday and it's pretty good.
I've only listened once and that was while using power tools.

I say Release instead of dating my self like I usually do by saying album(I was a Vinyl kid) because it was a release.
it was a bunch of money...$35usd.
but.
I had a coupon...
and...
it comes with a CD with "special features" what one doesn't now a days.

a DVD with ...you guessed it "bonus features"!!!

a thumb drive with all the MP3's of the release and 2 "bonus tracks"!!!

some very nice book with lot's of words and some cool illustrations.

and

a 12" vinyl record ALBUM!!!

not that I have any way to play it right now.
but that will be solved!
the only thing cooler would be if the album cover folded out so you could cut weed on it.

I sold most of my Vinyl when I moved to Atlanta in 92'.
I needed the $$ and didn't want to bring 8'x4' of records....
I kept a few...at my parents house... and most of those survived...
but Vinyl has a special delicate hiss and pop place in my heart.

I was seriously considering doing some photography with that...
then the Cyanide and Mercury poisoning potential hit home for me.
see I can be careless....and that's just an accident waiting to happen.

so still figureing all that out.

and while I was staring at this rebated Viking sword in the corner of my man cave....
I got a hair across my ass......

what I do care about is the fact that the pommel and hilt are Chromed....
the Norse people didn't Chrome any thing.... least my research hasn't turned up any Items....
so after talking with Chip....
I stripped the chrome to find some nice brass....

then no Norseman would have such a plain hilt....

so armed with a sharpie and Dremel tool...

and then some shaping of a nice piece of red Oak....

almost done....just got to clean up some burs and polish the fuck out of it.
then make that handle fit all perfect....

then it's on to a scabbard.

so Julie's in Vegas buying for The GD, this is me and her just before she left.....

then I drove the 2 hrs back to Boston.

I had great plans.

I was worried that I was going to be crushed under a pile of 11x14 photos from the mid 90's and be discovered 4 days later by Julie....

so the next day I was determined to go ride the F Gilbert forest in Foxboro.

so I got up early and man the light in my kitchen at the magic hour is amazing...

so I packed it all up called Brian a puss for baging on a ride and hit the trail head.

it was warm ish...30s....

but most of the trails looked like this....

seems the thawing and refreezing of late has made all the snow very hard and slick
the single track was impassable at points. and really hard going ...
I should have bought those Nokian Ice tires....

oh well.

so I took my bike for a walk in the woods.....

it was nice yet frustrating..

so I went for a little trip around town last Friday...

decided to lecture me on the evils of my life.

so he's freeking out at me.

well the whole bus stops breathing. and he steps closer.....

so I met Jef Taylor at lunch in 1985.....
some kids were giving me shit for being a bit punk rock....
and he commented on there sexuality...

so we got to talking about music and I named some bands...
he asked if I liked any bands that weren't on the Repo Man sound track.
at which point I pulled some tapes out of my bag.
and wow all those band were on the Repo Man sound track....

he's an observant guy....

so Jef and I have been friends since that day.
23 years?

his older brother Andy and I are friends too..
he used to buy us beer in High School....
Andy and I look enough alike that we would get blamed for the others actions at points.
so once we figured this out..... we would fuck with each other impersonating the other...

their father is one of the coolest people I know.
a total Luddite, a prolific photographer, PhD in history, High School Teacher for 51 years now.....
he's lost an eye so he's got a pirate look going on that can't be stopped.
he's taught me a lot over the years....
and has taught a lot of people as well.
he and Evi ran an alternative school in Connecticut for a while because the school systems were so ridged and standardized......good stuff

now on to Evi....
the mom....
she was always fun... a little nut's but they all are...
but the sad truth of it is.... she was a little crazier.
she had Alzheimer's.
early onset.
it explained a lot when she was diagnosed...
like the randomly changing curfew times....

so after 15 years in a home Evi left us this past week and is now at peace.....

so it was 60+f here yesterday.
man it was nice.
gray but nice.
I had forgone the ride on Saturday the day I had time to lazy about and spin when and where I wanted.
see I'm old.....that and my Rain jacket of 10+ years is dead....and I haven't bought a new one....
I'll get around to it....I just haven't found one I like yet... besides I should have a funeral for Old Red first....that jacket and me been through some shit together.

so it rained like mad on Saturday....so I stayed in chased the cats and did a bunch of errands..including laying in a supply of Barley Wine....

so pissed to the gils on Saturday night I get the great I dea!
I'll get up BEFORE DAWN. and be at the park at dawn.
then I can ride until1030 or so that way I can get back intime to clean up and drive to WORchester to meet up with Julies friends who are home for the holidays.

plan!

ok snooze bar and hangover.....I get a later then planned start.
and I get a little lost on the way there.....I wasn't awake.
so I get there, there being Wampatuck, and start my ride after putting on some gortex socks.
glad I did.
the rain had melted a ton of the snow but the trails were giant puddles and most hills were rivers leading to puddles.
some of these puddles were almost 2 feet deep with thin milky ice on top.
ride fast and steady through these mini lakes or be soaked.
I left the new P&S in the truck....I didn't want to gamble with it in these conditions.... that and I needed to ride not stop and take pics, I had to be back.
I hate having to be back it just sucks the joy out of it for me....
I don't mind racing the twilight to get back to the truck, but looking at my watch in the woods is no fun.
so other ten puddles and mini rivers there was crunchy snow that sucked the speed out of you and a bunch of new blow downs...including one that was spectacular.
a big tree went down and took 4-5 others with it.
right on the trail...theres going to be an interesting stunt there.

that and ice....weee!
and a ton of slimy roots.
I beefed but good once.
I was coming down a slight hill into a slight right hand turn and the front wheel just washed out from under me to the left and bam... face first into the snow.
man I was laughing.

so even with all that I made good time did a little loop walked a bit more then usual....I'm gonna blame the snow.
got back in time all be it soaked and decided I still like mountain biking.....got to get a new rain jacket.....any suggestions?

my stars and garters....Christmas is a weird holiday.....
suffice to say I don't really get along with my sisters.....my parents and I are ok but my sisters that's another story all together....I won't bore you with the details of my white trash up bringing.

Julies family all get along.....except her brother who we haven't seen in....5 years...
5 peaceful years...
so yeah we go from hanging out in a nice warn "family" environment where people kiss and hug.... to a stalemate with tension like cold war Berlin where once false move can end in disaster and flung food.

so here's a lil thing I wrote to Eileen explaining my Christmas experience with my family..
"We had agreed no presents.....I got a lil something for my mom and dad but nothing for Robyn or Fred.
and that was agreed upon....so said my Ma.
so Robyn showed up with a thoughtful "couple gift" for us.......a inexpensive but name brand popcorn popper with a tub of gourmet popcorn and different spice/salt combos.....
this is the nicest, normalest thing she's ever give me or Julie.....

thought and planning had gone into it.
it was nice, it was normal, it wasn't from QVC, it might have been a re-gift but not an appalling one....it wasn't last min hastily wrapped or purchased from a convenience store....which could only mean one thing.....she did it on purpose.

next un fuck it and get it in the stand.

then rip the old franken drive train apart see what's uesable grease it up and reassemble.

after much swearing and gun oil to free up some rusted bolts a hack saw was employed to remove the offending chain rings of wornoutness.......

so turns out that 32:17 gives me a near perfect chain tension.
it's a SRCH tight.....but should stretch in.
that or fail catastrophically 100 miles from no where...........
I determined that after a lot of swearing and use of the chin breaker I've had since I was 12.....
now for the icing on the cake!

the place as usual is full of jerks who don't pick up after there dogs and Gay dudes crusin'

It's been a few since I was here....I used to be here 4-5 times a week...and not just for the gay sex!
seems Nemba(Nambla) has up kept the trails here.

Which s all well and good and happy but they pusified some of the best parts.
bridges over water crossings,longer (easy'er) switch backs and ride arounds of rock gardens.

I call this the Irish Trail....

no shit you put a McMansion where the trail used to be.

This used to be a rock garden into a steep technical climb full of roots with a big ass rock on top.
man you cleaned that you were fucking riding!

now it's got pussy ass switch backs....and an easy approach to the rock on top.

so box O' parts and some grease and wrenches...
a Circle Jerks album, too much coffee, some swearing, a vice and a 22 oz hammer,bloody knuckles, some Remington gun oil, a rag and some Ice Wax,we gots us a working drive train!

I bought this bike with a tax return in 1998. it was the shit.
rapid rise 8 speed XT, a Manitou air oil shock Richie post, stem and bars, specialized cranks and radial laced front wheel.

we talk, he's a nice guy....then he notices I'm on a Frankenbike....single speed....
well his tune changes a bit.
and he tells me I can't ride this side of the highway. pulls out a map and shows me where I can ride.
then he tells me he needs to escort me out of the park.
and points to the other side on the map....

I say sure thing and he escorts me through some single tract I didn't know existed...

finally I tell him I can't take it any more and need to head out a different way.

I finally fell asleep around 430 am on Wednesday the 15th.

Bike hit 5555 this am.

shortly after this I started smelling a lot of GAS.
then I realized it was the beat to shit car in front of me.
it had a huge leak...... at the light it dropped a 2 foot puddle......

this dudes got a cigarette with a 2 inch ash on the end of it..which falls off on his shirt as he says "yeah buddy I know.... thanks......"
and he pulls away.
now there's a cop on the other side of the light and he flags me over.

I say" dudes got a gas leak and is smoking in there."
